Don’t want to sign up for a two or three-year contract? We’ve rounded up the very best 12 month broadband deals for extra flexibility
In these tricky financial times, committing to a long-term contract can seem like a leap of faith – and you’ll often need to pay huge fees to wriggle out of them. That’s where the best 12 month broadband deals come in: one-year plans give you more flexibility to seek out a better deal sooner and plenty of internet service providers (ISPs) are now onboard with the idea.
12 month broadband deals aren’t necessarily more expensive, either. Once upon a time, you’d have to pay through the nose for a shorter contract, but now they’re only likely to be a few pounds more per month. Or, as in the case of lesser-known ISPs such as Hyperoptic, they can even undercut the two-year opposition.
To help you find the best option for your needs, we’ve rounded up the best 12 month broadband deals below, focusing on value for money and attention-grabbing extras. We’ve even included a year-long mobile broadband alternative, which will get you a huge amount of bang for your buck if you’re lucky enough to live in a 5G area.
The best 12 month broadband deals
1. Plusnet: The best 12 month broadband deals from our favourite ISP overall

Plusnet dominated the Expert Reviews Best Broadband Awards 2022, scooping the top prize overall and two of the categories. It’s an outstanding all-rounder, delivering top-notch customer service and value for money.
That translates to its 12 month broadband deals, which are only £3/mth or £4/mth more expensive than its 18-month plans. Even better, Plusnet asks for some of the lowest upfront fees on the market.

2. BT: The best 12 month broadband deals for reliability

BT also did well in this year’s Best Broadband Awards, winning the important Most Reliable category and finishing second in the Best Speed section. The latter is particularly relevant to those searching for a superfast 12 month broadband deal because BT offers a gargantuan average download rate of up to 900Mbits/sec.
Granted, Hyperoptic (below) serves up the same blistering total for a lot less, but it can’t match the coverage or reliability of BT. If you’re after a service that will stay fast for a year, it’s the one to go for.

3. Now Broadband: The best 12 month broadband deals for streaming extras

Now Broadband, which piggybacks on Sky’s network, might not be the biggest player in the market, but it’s a real hidden gem. Not only are you paying some of the cheapest monthly prices on this list, but its 12 month broadband deals unlock delicious discounts on Now’s entertainment, film and sport bundles. To sweeten the deal, there are no setup fees.
For instance, if you pick the 63Mbits/sec plan for £22/mth, you’ll save £3/mth on the Cinema Membership (£7/mth, rather than £10/mth), which lets you watch the newest blockbusters. Alternatively, you can go for the discounted Entertainment Membership (£6/mth, instead of the usual £10) to access hundreds of stateside boxsets. The biggest saving, however, comes with the Sports Membership: you’ll get all of the Sky Sports channels for £25/mth, rather than the standard £34/mth. There’s something for everyone.

4. Hyperoptic: The best 12 month broadband deals for speed

It might not be a household name, but Hyperoptic delivers high speeds for staggeringly low prices that massively undercut the opposition. That includes 500Mbits/sec for a mere £35/mth and 900Mbits/sec for a scarcely believable £40/mth. To make those two plans even better, neither of them comes with any setup fees.
There’s a big catch, though: coverage. Although Hyperoptic’s network seems to be expanding, it’s still only available in pockets of the UK (primarily cities). However, if you’re lucky enough to win the postcode lottery, you can’t get more for your money elsewhere.

If you live in an area with a solid 4G connection, there’s another way of saving a lot of money: mobile broadband. In short, a mobile provider sends you a hub, which you simply plug in to start browsing. Job done. Three’s 12 month broadband deal is by far the best, offering an average download rate of 28Mbits/sec across the country (according to Opensignal) via the ultra-portable Huawei 4G Plus MiFi device.
And, as the cherry on the cake, Three is currently offering six months half price at just £13/mth (then £26/mth), saving you a whopping £78 overall. Even better, there's nothing to pay upfront.
