There's no denying the iPhone's Xs's hefty price tag. With the handset starting at £999 and rising to £1,349 depending on storage, it's one of the most expensive phones around and undoubtedly a massive outlay. Having said that, it's a "fabulous smartphone" according to our 4-star review and outperforms the iPhone X in several key areas including battery life, 4G connectivity and performance, and it features a better camera for taking better portrait photos.

The Xs offers the best video capture on any phone we’ve seen. Not only does it capture fully stabilised-4K video at 60fps, but it does so with stunning detail and smooth transitions as light levels change. It’s “insanely good” as stated in our review and the 5.8in AMOLED display is superb, "striking a balance between eye-popping saturation and colour accuracy". And it blew its Android rivals out of the water in our performance tests thanks to its new A12 Bionic chip.

Is the iPhone Xs worth it?

Almost identical to the iPhone X, the Xs has the same AMOLED 5.8in display, dimensions and notch. The main differences may be invisible to the naked eye but the internal upgrades offer a tempting proposition. As well as better battery life and faster performance, you'll also get faster 4G connectivity and a much improved camera.

Its 5.8in display uses AMOLED technology and is excellent, with each of the onscreen pixels having its own light source. The colour reproduction is superb, meaning that the screen is readable in most conditions including really bright sunshine, and Apple's Night Shift feature reduces blue light to help reduce retina damage.

Fitted with a super speedy A12 Bionic chip, it scored well in our benchmark tests and the battery life is much better than the iPhone X. The camera performance is truly impressive and there's no difference between the two cameras in the Xs and Xs Max despite there being a substantial difference in price.

The iPhone Xs sits in the middle of Apple's range of 2018 flagship releases both in terms of performance and price. It's a fabulous smartphone and if you don't have the cash to splash out on the iPhone Xs Max then this is the next best option if you're an iPhone fan.

Pros:

-It's faster than the iPhone X

-The camera is superb

-The new gold model looks fantastic

Cons:

-It's pricey for a 5.8in smartphone

-It's not quite as good as the Xs Max
